Posting Identification Number 10-11-32770 Position Overview The Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS), Office of Human Resources, Bureau of Accessibility and Job Accommodation, is seeking to hire an Accessibility Specialist to provide information and technical assistance regarding provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for IDHS staff and other public and private entities; assess features of programmatic access and physical site accessibility within IDHS state-owned and /or leased buildings sites; review, investigate, and draft initial responses to ADA /Section 504 grievances for supervisor’s approval, including substantive identification of ADA issues, relevant statements, supporting medical or other documentation, and other pertinent information to ensure compliance with IDHS.
In addition, this position will serve as a Reasonable Accommodation Specialist responsible for receiving, reviewing, and making determinations on requests for reasonable accommodations to assist candidates and employees with disabilities to perform essential job duties within IDHS.
Job Responsibilities As an Accessibility Specialist, provides information and technical assistance regarding provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for IDHS staff and other public and private entities.
Assesses features of programmatic access and physical site accessibility within IDHS state-owned and /or leased buildings sites.
Serves as a Reasonable Accommodation Specialist for Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) applicants and employees.
Reviews, investigates, and drafts initial responses to ADA /Section 504 grievances for supervisor’s approval, including substantive identification of ADA issues, relevant statements, supporting medical or other documentation, and other pertinent information to ensure compliance with IDHS policies.
Participates in the formulation of training curricula, materials, and strategies related to accessibility of IDHS services, programs, and activities.
Organizes and maintains information of a detailed and sensitive nature involving office operations.
Responds to inquiries received from Agency staff and private contractors/vendors regarding ADA.
Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college.
Requires one (1) year of responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization, OR completion of an agency approved professional management training program.
Preferred Qualifications One (1) years of professional experience providing information and technical assistance regarding provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for public and private entities as part of a public or private organization.
One (1) years of professional experience assessing features of programmatic access and physical site accessibility for a public or private organization.
One (1) years of professional experience in the provision of reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities in a public or private setting.
One (1) years of professional experience working with ADA /Section 504 grievances, including substantive identification of ADA issues, relevant statements, supporting medical or other documentation, and other pertinent information, for a public or private organization.
Two (2) years of professional experience formulating training curricula, materials, and strategies related to disability accessibility.
Two (2) years of professional experience in a public or private organization maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with professionalism.
