Position Overview The Illinois Department of Corrections and the Office of Adult Education and Vocational Services is looking for a professional educator that possesses a valid Professional Education License.
The OAEVS educator will provide Adult Basic Education and Adult Secondary Education services to adult individuals.
The chosen candidate will assess the learning needs of the student, plan and implement instructional actives, evaluate student success while promoting a positive learning environment.
The mission is to engage, educate and impower the adult education student.

Job Responsibilities Administer classroom and individual level instruction to participating individuals in custody.
Within the purview of the Curriculum Policy, develop curricula for each assigned teaching subject and approximate grade level.
Develops examination tools designed to measure each student’s strengths, weaknesses and progress.
Prepares and keeps detailed records and reports on attendance, achievement and individual progress and needs of the students.
Direct students in additional school related activities when necessary.
Attends and participates in discussion and planning at regular teachers meetings, including counselor-teacher meetings, team meetings and staff development.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications Requires possession of a current and valid ISBE-issued Professional Educator License with endorsement appropriate to the content area Elementary & Secondary Education in grades K-12.
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance) Prefers at least two (2) years of professional teaching experience.
Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience evaluating standardized test scores concerning students.
Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience reviewing and selecting course material and teaching aids.
Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience preparing a flexible course syllabus utilizing various instructional methods designed to benefit students.
Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience preparing reports consistent with the administrative requirements of the academic program and/or the institution’s objectives.
Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience attending in-service and other professional development seminars.
Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience on serving special committees as assigned.
Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience utilizing office equipment and technology in the development and reproduction of learning materials.
Prefers ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.
Prefers at least one (1) year of experience maintaining discipline, safety, and an effective learning environment.
Conditions of Employment Requires the ability to travel.
Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
Requires the ability to pass a drug screen.
