Location Carbondale, Illinois Job Type Faculty Job Number 202400025 Department Library Affairs-SIUC Opening Date 02/06/2024 Closing Date 4/1/2024 12:00 AM Central FLSA: Exempt Security/Safety Sensitive: NA Description This position is an Assistant Professor, tenure-track, full-time, 12 month continuing appointment reporting to the Associate Dean of Library Affairs.
The STEM Librarian provides instruction, multimedia support services, reference, outreach, and library services to the university community.
Examples of Duties Responsibilities include: Serve as the subject specialist to units covering the physical sciences, engineering, and technology, providing formal and informal instruction in library research for these departments and assisting with subject-specific research queries in areas of expertise.
Identify opportunities for outreach and strategic partnerships with specific SIU Carbondale departments based on expertise.
Support the library's information literacy program, which includes teaching, assessment, and developing instructional materials.
Assist library users at the Information Desk with research and reference questions, face-to-face and remotely, including limited nights and weekends.
Participate in collection development.
Participate in the library's scholarly communications initiatives, including the population of the Institutional Repository.
Conduct scholarly research/creative activity as part of the position, promotion, and tenure process.
Engage in professional activities, including university and library committees and task forces.
Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited master's degree in library science.
An undergraduate major in a STEM discipline.
Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
Potential to meet established Library Affairs criteria for promotion and tenure, including professional service and published research.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Additional advanced degree in any science discipline.
Experience with information literacy instruction.
Experience providing in-person or online reference services.
