Description
Governors State University is seeking to hire a Senior Library Specialist - Public Services, to assist the University Library by designing, organizing, and updating library informational, instructional, and statistical materials for the GovState community as well as internal documentation and training materials for library Public Services employees.
The incumbent communicates and collaborates with appropriate library and university faculty, staff, and administrators to ensure the accuracy and suitability of informational materials and utilizes appropriate and innovative technologies.
Other primary duties include providing public desk coverage, in-person, email, and chat reference services, and other special projects and user-oriented duties according to department need.
This position may direct, train, and review the work of student aides.
Essential Responsibilities 70% Public Service • Creates, edits, and organizes library informational content such FAQs, research guides, tutorials, infographics, how-to guides, departmental policy and procedure manuals, and other training materials in collaboration with librarians, staff, library administrators, and other university stakeholders.
• Utilizes appropriate technologies.
• Compiles and organizes public services statistics; designs statistics collection forms and surveys, may create infographics and graphs to showcase statistical information.
• Provides scheduled circulation desk coverage.
• Provides in-person, email, and chat reference services.
30% Special Projects • Completes projects as coordinated with the Public Services Librarian and library administration according to unit need.
• Serves as backup for other departmental functions as needed (e.
g.
, Interlibrary Loan, etc.
).
Hourly range: $18.
36 to $19.

(This is a negotiated position.
Salary starts at the base up to an additional 5% based on Education and Experience exceeding the minimum qualifications per union contract).

College course work in any field as measured by the following conversion table: 30 semester hours equals one (1) year Associate's degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen (18) months 90 semester hours equals two (2) years Bachelor's degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years A total of two (2) years work experience in a library or equivalent setting performing progressively more responsible work consistent with the next lower level of this series.
Desired Education and Experience • Associate or bachelor's degree in any field.
• Three years of experience in an environment which involves frequent customer interactions and daily use of computers, software, and other office equipment.
• Work experience in libraries, higher education, or related fields.
• Extensive customer service experience.
• Experience training and supervising others in a customer service environment.
• Experience with library programs and meeting activities.
• Experience writing policies and procedures.
