JOB Governors State University invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Associate Provost and Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs.
This position will assist the Provost in managing the day-to-day operation of the academic functions of the campus, ensuring all campus classes and academic support services are operating effectively, developing strong collaborative relationships with faculty and staff at the campus, and directing a broad range of functions and services to assure the quality and appropriateness of the campus' delivery of academic programs.
In addition, the Associate Provost/AVP will take the lead in developing faculty professional development programs, including mentoring and new faculty orientation, serve as the contract administrator for the collective bargaining agreement with the faculty union, serve as the lead member of the provost’s office staff in developing grant proposals, manage and lead the monthly Chairs Council meetings, and supervise the undergraduate student advising center and the center for teaching and learning executive directors.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES 40% Perform as the contract administrator for the University Professionals of Illinois (UPI), Local 4100 bargaining union.
Manage personnel matters related to faculty and staff as outlined in the UPI contract.
15% Lead faculty professional development activities and training that strengthens instructional delivery and faculty growth.
5% Collaborate with deans and programs to deliver high-quality academic programming.
5% Evaluate the academic calendar and course schedules for efficiency and alignment with 4-year plans to ensure timely student progress and degree completion.
5% Maintain a regular presence on campus and actively participate in university events as a academic affairs leadership team member.
5% Work with deans to ensure a thorough review of course evaluations and use the data to improve curriculum and instruction.
5% Work with the provost and deans to improve the faculty evaluation process so it is transparent with clear expectations and consistent accountability.
5% Ensure each program has clear goals, a compelling value-proposition and distinctive educational experiences that lead to competence, character building and career success for all graduates.
5% Work with faculty and university offices to meet enrollment, retention, and graduation goals.
5% Contribute to the development, communication, and consistent implementation of academic policies and procedures across colleges and programs.
5% Perform all other duties as assigned by the Provost and Vice President of Academic AffairsOther Responsibilities Work with the deans and program faculty to create a supportive environment conducive to learning, service, and scholarship that will lead to intellectual vitality and student success.
Work with the provost and the enrollment management team to identify and develop new programs that are mission-aligned and market-driven.
Collaborate with the academic affairs team to review college structures, policies, and procedures to ensure the efficiency of operations.
Review and propose changes to student advising to improve the educational experience, student satisfaction, and completion rate.
? Support the continuous improvement and distinction of the General Education program.
Provide faculty workload oversite in collaboration with deans and programs.
Support the hiring, development, and evaluation of adjunct faculty.
Support academic affairs budget management.
Travel may be required for this position.
This position may supervise full-time, part-time, graduate assistants, and student employees.
